Scalable, the IP networking and security specialist has assisted Hereward College with the replacement of their core switching solution with resilient core switches from Extreme Networks, allowing the College to take advantage of the benefits of standardising on equipment from a single vendor, providing the ability to manage the solution from one management platform.

The switching solution installed consists of two Summit X670-48x and two Summit X460-24x switches. The SX670-48x will be utilised to provide 10GB fibre connectivity and the SX460-24x will provide 1GB fibre and copper connectivity. The four core switches would be stacked together using 40GB Summit Stacking to provide one virtual chassis.

Hereward will see many benefits from the Extreme Virtual Chassis technology, including:

•    Simplified management via a single IP address

•    Chassis grade availability as the virtual chassis continues to operate in the unlikely event of a core switch failing.

•    Resilient Routing as both core switches have been specified with core licenses.

•    High performance switching as switches are interconnected with 40GB stacking cables, also resiliently connected via interconnecting stacking cables and one return cable.
