Proactive Monitoring, delivered via a software agent, will actively monitor networks, servers, applications and bandwidth capacity in real time. As more organisations deploy distributed IT solutions that incorporate 3rd parties, there is growing demand for visibility of the IT environment and specifically into the SLA delivery of contracted partners. Denny Meijer, Technical Director at Scalable Communications, explains: “The emergence of IP and distributed solutions is delivering greater efficiencies across the enterprise, but in turn is placing more and more demand on the IT infrastructure. As such, it is increasingly difficult to ensure the delivery of priority applications and to maximise the uptime of revenue-generating business operations." “In launching a managed network monitoring service, we’re able to provide our customers with the 24/7 support and maintenance they require for an ‘always on’ enterprise, helping them to focus on their core business expertise.“ Based on the Software as a Service (SaaS) model, Proactive Monitoring offers a comprehensive suite of features, in addition to traditional network, application, server and bandwidth monitoring, including; netflow/flow support, private MIB support and VPN latency monitoring. Additionally, since it is delivered as software, there is no requirement for onsite hardware, dedicated communication links or a complicated security set-up, helping to reduce cost of ownership and management burden upon the enterprise. For money brokers Martin Brokers, one of the first of Scalable Communications’ customers to deploy Proactive Monitoring, gaining visibility and control of their network architecture is critical to ensure application performance. Scott Martin, IT Operations Manager of Martin Brokers, explains: “Data integrity within the finance industry is crucial to our customers, and therefore latency and downtime is unacceptable. Scalable’s Proactive Monitoring service has given us a valuable insight into how our servers, applications, networks and bandwidth are performing, and provided an instant return on investment.” Martin adds, “As a fully hosted solution, Proactive Monitoring was quick to deploy, requires no onsite hardware, and very little management. In fact, Scalable’s support team are able to investigate and resolve problems remotely, helping to further increase network performance, reducing the burden upon us.” Complemented by an online customer portal, Proactive Monitoring provides real-time alerts by email and SMS, as well as itemised SLA reports detailing network and application performance. This is further supplemented by 24/7 maintenance delivered by Scalable Communications’ highly skilled engineering workforce in order to achieve agreed customer SLAs. Meijer concludes, “Unbeknown to us at the time, Martin Brokers were considering several other monitoring tools, and it was not until near the end of their evaluation that we introduced Proactive Monitoring.
